OCZ has announced the launch of a new Notebook, called the Neutrino. It is in fact a range built around the skeleton of a laptop with the following fixed components: a netbook type chassis (263mmx185mmx19.6-27mm), a motherboard based on the Intel 945GSE, an Atom N270 processor, a b/g wifi card and a 3 cell 2200 mAh battery. This is then, a fairly complete base that from a performance point of view doesn't leave a great deal of leeway to modify price and performance.
The user has a choice of RAM, whether or not the 2.5" hard drive be SSD or standard, the card reader and the operating system. Apart from this last very appreciated choice, you’ll find more or less the same offer with constructors such as Dell who supply "à la carte" laptops. The advantage is that this is a netbook rather than a laptop or a notebook. Without the hard drive, the weight is given as 1.3 kg. The Neutrino will be sold first in the US at $269. |

Asus has unveiled a new Eee PC, the first netbook to include a DVD burner. The 1004DN thus lowers the barrier between classic laptops and netbooks. Those of you who are a weeny bit picky might say that it is easy to make a large “netbook” or a small “notebook” with a DVD burner. Nevertheless the 1004DN is only 1 cm wider and 3 mm deeper than the 1000HA. And the weight? At 1.45 Kg, it is not a gram heavier than the 1000HA according to the Asus spec. If we compare with other 10" machines, it is 120 grams more than an Eee PC 1000 or 250 grams more than MSIs U100 Wind.
The spec of the burner has not been detailed but we do know that it is a super multi disc drive. The 10 inch WSVGA screen has a 1024 x 600 pixel res. Inside the chipset is a GN40 coupled with an Atom N280 processor clocked at 1.66 GHz. The 1004DN comes with 1 GB of RAM but can contain double. It also has an integrated webcam and supports 802.11n wifi as well as Bluetooth. It will be available during April 2009 for an as yet unknown price. |

NVIDIA has announced the availability of a new series of graphics cards for its Quadro pro range:
- NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 - NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 - NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800 - NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800 - NVIDIA Quadro FX 580 - NVIDIA Quadro FX 380 - NVIDIA Quadro NVS 295
In fact, the Quadro FX 5800 and 4800 had already been launched at the end of last year, with, remember, no less than 4 GB of GDDR3 for the FX 5800! The FX 3800 comes in at the top end as it is also based on GT200b that you’ll find on the GTX285. The FX 3800 is moreover the first single slot card based on this chipset, but it is slightly cut down with a clock around 475 MHz and a 256 bit memory bus to fit with the 108 watt TDP. The other cards bring performance gains on the previous range at the same time as retaining a similar TDP. We note the arrival of the new technology called NVIDIA SLI Multi-OS, which combines Intel VT technology and Parallels Workstation Extreme software and means virtual machines can benefit from Quadro FX 5800, 4800 and 3800 accelleration. |
