2 months after VIA, Intel announces a reference design for emerging countries such as India and a program to develop the presence of IT tools (Jaagruti means "awaking"). The idea is to sell cheap solutions that are adapted to local requirement and environments which are sometime difficult: heat, dust, low reliability of electric networks…
If VIA's said that it was possible to connect the PC-1 to a car battery, Intel indicates to have integrated an uninterruptible power supply to avoid problems due to temporary electrical weaknesses.
The last surprise is the design: Intel's reference product seems to be excessively big. This size must make VIA smile. Their product is extremely compact. It is difficult however to have an idea of the performances of the two solution because Intel hasn't even unveiled the specification of their own product.
