AMD has announced the release of a new 3D card for the business market. Like the FirePro V8700, the 8750 is based on an RV770/790 type GPU but the memory is up from 1 GB to 2 GB. Clocked at 800 MHz, this GDDR5 has a bandwidth of 115.2 GB/s. It has two DisplayPorts and one DVI Dual Link. On sale at $1799, it is also compatible with the brand new FirePro S400 synchronisation module.

AMD has also announced the arrival of the CrossFire Pro, which allows the combination of the performance of two cards. Available soon in Windows XP and in the second half of the year for other OS’, it opens the door, among other things, for acceleration of UG NX, Ensight, Maya and Teamcenter with the use of Alternate Frame Rendering (AFR).

Samsung has just announced its new range of hard drive the SpinPoint F3. After having been used in the EcoGreens, the 500 GB platters are now being used in these drives that function at 7200 rpm. Available as of now in the 500 GB version, the SpinPoint F3 1 TB will arrive next month but we don’t yet know if Samsung will go beyond this: the SpinPoint F1 had a 3 platter design for its 1 TB version. The SpinPoint F3s will be available in versions with 16 and 32 MB of cache.

Note that Seagate has gone the same way with its Barracuda 7200.12, that is still limited to 1 TB in spite of using 500 GB platters, while the 7200.11 used up to four 375 GB platters for a maximum capacity of 1.5 GB. Both manufacturers offer higher capacities – 1.5 TB from Samsung and 2 TB from Seagate – with their EcoGreen and Barracuda LP ranges at 5400 rpm and 5900 rpm.
