PhotoFast has put up several ranges of 1.8’’ format SSDs on its site. We may well soon be seeing netbooks and mp3 players equipped with SSDs. The manufacturer is proposing a plethora of versions of which a large part are in PATA IDE, following on from the G-Monster-50 IDE V3 that is available in 32, 64 and 128 GB versions, with 64 MB of cache and 5 mm thick. For this range, PhotoFast has announced read speeds of 100 MB/s and writes of 12 MB/s in random 4 KB write.
There is also a MicroSATA version that offers particularly mouthwatering theoretical speeds in a small 78x54x5 mm casing weighing between 13 to 25 grammes depending on the model: reads of 230 MB/s and writes of 160 MB/s for the G-Monster-1.8-MicroSATA! No indication has been given as to which controller will be used but it could well be Jmicron’s JMF612.
