The day before the launch of the GeForce 9600 GT, AMD announced that it would lower the prices of the Radeon HD 3850 and 3870. Also, some additional information was given. First of all, these price reductions will come in early March and will mainly involve the Radeon HD 3850 and 3650. For these two cards this could be as high as 20%. In practice, it seems that it may already be in effect or was slightly anticipated because the HD 3850 256 MB and 512 MB are starting to be found at a respective 130€ and 150€.
On the other hand, the Radeon HD 3870’s price will undergo a much more limited reduction. This may seem a bit strange because it is the most apt to rival Nvidia’s new mid-range card but either way at 165€ AMD’s solution is still interesting. Finally, there may be a new version of the Radeon HD 3870 X2 in April which will this time use have a PLX Switch that supports PCI-Express 2.0 (in theory, the PEX8647).
