Intel continues to clean up its Core architecture processor line and is now focusing on mobile versions, the Merom.

The Core 2 Duo T7200, T7600, T5500, T5600, L7200 as well as the Celeron M 520 and 530 will thus be progressively culled. Starting March 25th, only firm orders will be taken and this up until May 26th. The last deliveries of the Core 2 Duo T7200, T7600, T5500, T5600, and L7200 are planned for July 27th, 2009 and for the Celeron M 520 and 530 it will be January 26th, 2009.

According to Digitimes, Nvidia should launch the nForce 790i starting in the second quarter. Composed of a Northbridge (C73) and Southbridge (MCP55), it differs from the nForce 780i by its native support on the SPP (Southbridge) level of PCI-Express 2.0 as well as FSB1600 and even DDR3 support. Other specifications are more standard: 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 6 SATA configurable in RAID 0, 1, 0+1 and 5 in addition to 2 PATA.

Our most up to date information suggests this will be the last Nvidia chipset not to include a graphic core meaning it’s not Hybrid SLI compatible. On the other hand, colleagues indicate this technology will be supported. Given its late arrival, we cannot exclude that Nvidia took advantage of the situation to review its version but nothing is too certain on this point at the moment.

Intel has announced via a PCN (Product Change Notification) that Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processors will make the change from C0 to C1 stepping starting March 3rd. As for the S-Spec, it evolves from S LAN3 to SLAWN and the CPUID is now 0x00010677 versus the previous 0x00010676.

Officially, there is no electrical or TDP modification but the new revision will still necessitate a bios update. In practice, it will be interesting to observe if the Core 2 Q9xxx will also receive this new stepping and if the Yorkfield C1 will behave exactly like the C0.

New photos of the GeForce 9800 GX2 have appeared on ChipHell.

More detailed than those already published, use of the G92 and two PCBs is confirmed while between the two a cooling system is sandwiched. Still in its engineering sample stage (as we can see from the blue wire next to the SLI connection) nevertheless the card already seems quite complete. Also visible is the presence of an in-house PCI-Express switch called the NP200-SLI.
