Sharp has announced the release of a new 8 megapixels sensor. This new sensor is cheaper and smaller, 1/1.8" instead of 2/3", than its rival the Sony 8 megapixels. But because of its size, this new sensor will probably produce picture with a higher level of noise.
Additionally to pictures, this sensor will be able to save videos in x 480 pixels, 30 fps. |

In the battle between the Blu-Ray and the HD-DVD for the next DVD generation, a new event could put the HD-DVD back on the track. According to Business Week Online, three studios might announce in the next week that they will choose the HD-DVD format.
An agreement between the Warner Bros, Universal and Paramount regarding the adoption of the HD-DVD format by the end of 2005 would be in the works. Disney is also said to be in talks with Toshiba. Apparently this deal isn’t exclusive and if the Blu-Ray finally becomes the new standard these studio would be able to release their movies on Sony's Blu-ray format as well.
We remind you that the Blu-Ray format has with Sony and Sony Pictures the support of the MGM (recently bought by the Japanese giant) and the 20th Century Fox. |

Like AMD and Intel, VIA is working on the dual core technology and should release in June 2005 a new chip. If they are on schedule, VIA could upstage AMD’s new Opteron expected mid-2005.
Based on the future VIA C7 (code name Esther), this processor will be actually made of two pieces of silicon in a single package, instead of a single piece of silicon with two cores for AMD and Intel.
The last solution seems to be the most advanced, but VIA’s choice should reduce their new twin-core solution development time. This is the reason why VIA could be able to release their new CPU in June even if they started working on that subject later than their competitors.
VIA indicated that it will be possible to use two twin-cores CPU on a Mini ITX motherboard and that one 1U server will be able to include two Mini ITX motherboards and 4 twin-cores CPU altogether. |
