The Tech Report announced that contrary to past month’s rumors the nForce4 won’t feature the SoundStorm 2.

As an alternative, this chipset will support high-definition audio datatypes. In other words, an improved AC’97 compatible 96 kHz/ 24 bits but using the processor to carry out numerical signals, instead of a real dedicated sound solution similar to the nForce2 with the APU. It is really a shame however this choice might be justified from an economical point of view.
