     Dual X1600 for Gecube

The graphic card manufacturer will announced during he CeBIT the first graphic card including two GPU build by ATI, the Gemini. This card will be available in April at $399 approximately (with two X1600 XT).

We have to hope that the end price will be lower because the price of a single X1600 XT is $160 approximately. Even if it only requires one slot, there is no justification for this card to be more expensive than two distinct ones.

The first bi-GPU card was announced in December 2004. It was the Gigabyte 3D1 that included two GeForce 6600 GT. More recently, ASUSTeK released a bi-7800 GT, the Extreme N7800GT Dual. If ATI doesn't seem to have immediate plans for 4 GPU CrossFire support, NVIDIA will release their solution in March. This will certainly revive the interest of this type of cards for performances enthusiasts.

     3DLabs withdraws from pro market

4 years after buying 3DLabs, Creative announced that its subsidiary will withdraw from the professional graphic card market to focus on portable handheld devices.

It has been quite some time now that 3DLabs' 3D professional branch was encountering some difficulties because of the fierce competition from NVIDIA and ATI (see our news). Times are changing, but we can only regret to see the end of one the pioneers of real time 3D.

This operation will result in a workforce reduction of approximately 100 3Dlabs employees. Our question today is what will be the future of the company? If the 3D Pro market is a cut-throat market, the embedded 3D market is as much or maybe even more.

     NVIDIA MCP55

According to DailyTech, NVIDIA would be nearing the completion of a chipset known as MCP-55. This evolution of the nForce4 would be released at the same time as AMD's Socket AM2, even if this Socket doesn't necessitate new chipset.

Compared to the nForce 4, the MCP-55 includes several improvements:

    - HDA audio codec instead of the AC’97
    - dual Gigabit Ethernet PHYs
    - 6 SATA channels instead of 4

The number of PCIe lanes will apparently remain the same, so two chips will still be required to control a 2x16 SLI setup.

Duel: the new IPS panel versus a TN 2 ms in games. Unfair? Not at all ! This is the revolution of the year as IPS is becoming the gamer’s technology of choice for 20" monitors!
