Matrox could be the only manufacturer to postpone their PCI Express solution in 2005. The company sales representative indicated that such products shouldn’t be released before the end of the fourth quarter, at the earliest.

The current Matrox graphic range is still based on the Parhelia and its derivatives. This architecture has been released in 2002 and isn’t compatible with the Pixel Shader 2.0 and DirectX 9. Matrox should use the PCI Express transistion to launch a new chip compatible at least with this shader level required for Windows Longhorn.

After the Parhelia limited success, Matrox decided to leave the gaming 3D graphic card market. However the PCI Express isn’t restricted to a single graphic port and Matrox should be able to release even more advanced-level multi-screen solutions.

Initially scheduled for the last quarter 2004, the XGI XG45 chip seems to be a little bit delayed. According to the last rumours, XGI should release the XG45 and the XG47 during the first quarter 2005. Theses chips, compatible with the PS3.0, are currently finalized and a first chip sample should be available soon.

Apparently, XGU would have decided to create two designs, a 90 and a 130 nm, in order to choose the right chips version for the release according to their requirements. The XG45 and XG47 should be able to compete with the NVIDIA GeForce 6600 and the future ATI X700.

Asetek just announced the release of new products for the Waterchill line (water-cooling). The main innovation is the introduction of two hard drives waterblocks. The first one is a 5 1/4' bay and the second one is a smaller 3 1/2' bay.

According to Waterchill, it is possible to reach with passive cooling 50°C on a disc with the 5 1/4' Bay and 29°C with the 3 1/2' Bay. The optional Gapfiller optimize the contact with the disc (without the Gapfiller the temperature reach 33°C). There is also a new optional Socket 775 processors waterblock.
