If May should be synonymous with 7900 volume availability and ATI’s answer to the 7900 GT. HKEPC has tested a pre version of this card which specifications are identical to the ones announced in this news two weeks ago.

Using the same design as the X1800 XL & GTO, this card is 10 to 35% faster than the X1800 XL. It will be, depending on the game, just a little slower or at the same level of performances as the X1800 XT 256 MB, but it will be more expensive than the X1900 GT, 349 € instead of 299€.

Compared to the 7900 GT, it is faster under Half Life 2 and BattleField 2, but slower under Doom 3, Serious Sam 2, Splinter Cell 3 and Fear. Of course, we will wait for our own tests to draw conclusions.

To finish, we have to point out that ATI has just reduced the X1800 GTO price to 199€. It is 50€ lower than the release price. If this price is accurate and if the 7600 GT remains at the same price level, ATI could take the lead for this segment.
