     45nm Phenom power consumption

The Chinese site Zol has published some figures for the power consumption obtained with a 45nm Phenom compared to a Phenom 9600. At rest, the configuration consumes 154w in 65nm and 147w in 45nm while in load measurements were 200 and 176w.

Given that a Phenom 9600 consumes roughly 24w at rest and 89w in load according to our measurements and taking into account the machines power supply efficiency of 80%, we then have an estimated 18.4w at rest and 69.8w in load for this Phenom 45nm at 2.3 GHz.

So here is something that brings it closer to the Q6600 (17.4/70.8w) but which leaves it far from the Q9300 (5.6/44.9w)! Of course, we should keep in mind that the Phenom integrates a memory controller unlike Intel CPUs which should add on as much as 10 watts.

This is therefore a notable reduction but not enough to rival Intel at this time. However note that these are currently non-definitive versions and from now until their release at the end of the year, AMD has time for some optimizations in this area.
