SSD Mtron for servers: 1070 MB/s

Open Network Service has announced a new server, the H2500RS, which is equipped with two MTRON SSDs with a capacity of 64 GB mounted in Raid 1 (thus mirroring) whose sustained speed should be 1070 MB /s or more than the 800 MB /s of the ioDrive. The press release specifies that such a speed is possible for 100 continuous hours or a little more than 4 days. No other technical details were revealed.

The latest creation from ONS should, like its predecessor the H2500, attain 650 MB /s and be used for IPTV (Internet protocol TV), VOD (video on demand) and even UCC (User created Content). For the price, plan on spending roughly 6500€ (taxes not included), which in perspective is very reasonable.

XFX and MSI's GeForce 9600 GSO

It’s now almost certain that the GeForce 9600 GSO will be available starting May 13th. If it is first and foremost a renamed GeForce 8800 GS for marketing purposes, this time manufacturers should be relatively free to fix frequencies as they see fit. In terms of price, this should be around $129 or a little less than 100€ if taxes are included.

XFX has already put its product page online for its 384 MB version card and we can see that GPU/shader clock/memory frequencies are 580/1450/700 MHz versus 550/1375/800 MHz for the reference GeForce 8800 GS. Knowing that the memory bus is reduced to 192 bits, it should have difficulty with increases in resolution and when activating filters.

Photos of MSI cards are also available and 384 MB and 768 MB versions are planned.

Real fake price reductions for AMD

While AMD recently went forward with a price reduction of certain processors, some clarification is necessary. On the high end, the reduction will be the following:

We should point our rather two rather significant details: $215 is also the launch price of the Phenom X4 9750 125W and $195 was already the price of the Phenom X4 9550, as some articles on the 27th of March attest. In short, these CPUs have in no way become more attractive. The most intriguing however is the « magical» $209 (or even $251 according to some sources) which would have been the price of the Phenom 9550.

On the other hand, the reduction seems real for the Athlon X2:

Finally, there is the arrival of the Athlon X2 Energy Efficient which has a TDP of 45W like the Athlon X2 BE that they replace as the 4050e and 4450e take the respective frequencies of the 2350 and 2400.
