The recent unofficial appearance of the AMD Opterons Magny-Cours 12 core processors, designed for the pro market, has now been officialised and six new processors have just joined the AMD catalogue. They’re all engraved at 45 mn, use a Hyper Transport 3.0 bus, DDR3 on 4 channels and have 12 MB of L3 cache.
The Opteron 6000s come in 8 and 12-core models and use their own G34 socket. This is because of the large size of these processors, which are in fact assembled from 4 and 6 core Opteron dies.
Here are their specs:
- Opteron 6128 (8 cores) / 1.5 GHz / 12MB L3 cache / TDP 115W - Opteron 6134 (8 cores) / 1.7 GHz / 12MB L3 cache / TDP 115W - Opteron 6136 (8 cores) / 2.4 GHz / 12MB L3 cache / TDP 115W
- Opteron 6168 (12 cores) / 1.9 GHz / 12MB L3 cache / TDP 115W - Opteron 6172 (12 cores) / 2.1 GHz / 12MB L3 cache / TDP 115W - Opteron 6174 (12 cores) / 2.2 GHz / 12MB L3 cache / TDP 115W
Note that the TDP is contained is spite of the number of cores, partly due to the modest clocks. |

Though we have no official info on the pricing or spec of the GTX 480, we do now know the launch date. NVIDIA has announced on its Twitter account that its first general consumer card based on the GF100 will be unveiled at PAX East, a video games event being held in Boston from March 26th – 28th.
It’s therefore very likely that NVIDIA’s new baby will be announced as of the 26th, putting us out of our misery at last. The endless Fermi delays have indeed allowed ATI to roll out its Radeon 5000s across all segments of the market at its leisure and NVIDIA has a lot of work to do to catch up.
No information on the spec of the GPU has been given yet, which keeps us all in suspense as to the performances of the new card. We’ll also have to wait for official communication on the price of the GTX 480 and its future derivatives.
Rendezvous on March 26, then, for more on this. |
