ViewSonic's marketing service always surprises us. They were faster than their competitors to announce new technologies (they were the first to announce the following monitors: MVA 8 ms, TN 4 ms then 2 ms, and now 1 ms), and today they release… a new CRT. Despite the fact that most of their competitors avoid the subject and that these monitors are less and less present in shops.
This CRT, the P227FB is a 21" monitor dedicated to, according to ViewSonic, professional graphic designers. Thos who are no longer used to CRT might be surprised by the characteristics as they are much different from the LCDs:
- Real visible surface: 20" - Average to short P22 RVB phosphor persistence - Horizontal frequency: 130 kHz, vertical frequency from 50 to 160 Hz - Recommended for 1600 x 1200 pixels @ 99 Hz and up to 2048 x 1536 @ 79 Hz - No horizontal 0.20 mm, 0.25 mm mask - Dimensions, weight: 501 x 503 x 477 mm / 26.4 kg - Convergence gap: center 0.22, side 0.35 mm
Of course there are no response times, viewing angles, brightness or contrast ratio. Characteristics that seem to be important on LCD monitors apparently aren't on CRTs. Obviously, knowing the contrast ratio would have been interesting even if it isn't usually communicated for CRTs.
Last detail, the price: 630€ (VAT included). The price of a 20" LCD. |
