According to several motherboard manufacturers, the first processors based on the K8L architecture could be launched in November. These will be the Phenom FX-80, Phenom X4 GP-7000 and GP-7100, as well as the Phenom X2 GS-6550. As for the start of production tests, they are planned for Sept.-Oct.

As is often the case, the question of real availability comes up. Add to this, the speculation concerning the utilization of production lines since the announcements about delays on the Opteron. No one is counting on seeing them in stores before the start of next year.

New competition in the LCD: Toshiba comes back

The current context could be interesting for a come back :

    - Toshiba left the monitor market some time ago, and they are now known for their large sized TVs and high definition players,
    - Toshiba was going to launch itself in SED technology, but their plans were spoiled,
    - Toshiba masters 100 Hz technology in its flat screens,
    - they know how to manage wide gamut,
    - a growing number of monitors are abandoning DVI input for HDMI,
    - the 22" diagonal is in fashion, but by the end of the year, this could well be the Full HD 24", 1920 x 1200 pixels.
    - price wars have never been so fierce.

So, if Toshiba comes back this could make some sparks fly. We got a hold of the two first screens that will be released, a 20 and 22 inch. The Tekbright 20"W and 22"W each have a TN 5 ms panel, designs are classic (not again!), the base is fixed, and prices aren’t even impressive at 299 and 349 euros (taxes included), respectively. Consolation prize: the monitors have a DVI interface.

    Disappointing!
