It’s over to AMD to announce its results for the first quarter of 2011. Turnover was USD 1.61bn, which is 2.5% up on the first quarter of 2010. Net profits were USD 510mn, against USD 257mn last year. This figure does however include USD 492mn from adjustments linked to shares in GlobalFoundries.
In practice, then, and excluding this, operating profits came in at USD 92mn for net profits of USD 56mn, compared to operating profits of USD 130mn and net profits of USD 63mn a year ago. The gross margin, then, is down from 47% a year ago to 43%.
Looking at the figures a bit closer, CPU/Chipset turnover is up 3.4% to USD 1200mn, while operating profits are down from USD 146mn to USD 100mn. Turnover for the graphics division is up from USD 409mn to USD 413mn (+1%), but operating profits in this area is down from USD 47mn a year ago to just USD 19mn. |
