     SilentOTES ABIT motherboards

ABIT has just officially released the first motherboards including the SilentOTES technology. Just as a reminder, the SilentOTES is a noiseless cooling system for chipset. It combines one aluminium radiator with a copper base and a second copper radiator at the usual spot of the COM and Parallel ports. These two radiators connect with a heatpipe and the air flow is ensured by the processor fan.

    AW8

Here is a list of motherboards including this technology:

    - AW8 Max (Socket 775 / Intel 955X)
    - AN8 SLI (Socket 939 / nForce 4 SLI)
    - AN8 Ultra (Socket 939 / nForce4 Ultra)
    - AN8 V2.0 (Socket 939 / nForce 4)

    AN8 Ultra

Now we have to hope that this type of technology will continue to grow and replace the noisy chipset fan recently released with the ASUSTeK A8N and AV8-E.

     DualGFX K8T890 Pro in SLI?

VIA just made an intriguing press release about the DualGFX technology. So far this technology as it was implemented in the PT894 Pro gave access to two PCI Express x16 slots with one cabled in 4x to use two graphic cards. This technology wasn’t compatible with the NVIDIA SLI and VIA advanced the possibility to use two graphic cards for multi display.

In this press release, VIA says that they made a demonstration of the DualGFX with a K8T890 Pro during the E3 and that it provides exceptional performances with one monitor and improves multi display support. The graphic cards used in this demonstration hasn’t been specified but our colleagues from x-bit labs took a picture of the computer including two GeForce 6600 GT in SLI. We don’t know however if performances provided are equivalent to the nForce4 and if NVIDIA will still leave the possibility in their drivers to activate the SLI with the K8T890 Pro. The K8T890 Pro could be released during the Computex early June.
