On Friday, Sapphire launched a new Radeon 4800, the Vapor-X. These cards use a new cooling system based on VCT (Vapor Chamber Technology). A plate made from a double layer of fine copper filled with water vapor is placed between the GPU and the heatsink. Light and in direct contact with the GPU, this solution offers better heat dissipation than a traditional copper heatsink.

Combined with a new ventilator and still extracting air from the casing, this cooling system means Sapphire can affirm that the Vapor X is better cooled than other Radeon 4800s, no bad thing as the Saphire models didn’t perform particularly well in our last product survey.
3 models have been launched:
- Radeon 4850 512 MB (139 €)
- Radeon 4870 1 GB (199 €)
- Radeon 4870 2 GB (229 €)
The prices announced are comparable to other cards but the Vapor X’s are in fact going for a little more in the stores.
