We now know a bit more about the timetable for releases and price cuts at Intel over the coming months.
The first stage is planned for the 19th April with the Q8400, a 2x2 MB quad core with an L2 cache and clocked at 2.66 GHz. It will be at $183, the current price of the Q8300 at 2.5 GHz. We’ll have to wait for July for the Q8300 to be cut to $163, the current price of the Q8200.
The 31st of May looks like being pretty busy with at least 5 new products. Starting with the Core i7-975 EE at 3.3 GHz and $999, which replaces the 965, and a new Core i7-950 at 3.06 GHz and $562, the current price of the i7-940 which will probably go off line. The Core 2 E7600 at 3.06 GHz will also be out, at the current price of the E7500 (2.93 GHz) namely $133. The E7400 will be cut to $113 in July, the current price of the E7400.
At entry level, the 31st May should also see the Pentium Dual Core E6300 (2.8 GHz and FSB1066) and Celeron Dual Core E1600 (2.4 GHz) at $84 and $53 respectively. The E6300 will be sold at the current price of the E5400 (2.7 GHz and FSB800) and the E5400 will be cut to $74 on the 19th July, the Pentium E5300 going down from $74 to $64.
Although Intel is reajusting its price scale for entry level dual and quad cores, it is doing nothing of the sort for the top end of the range except for the 133 MHzs that it is ‘giving’ free with the Core i7-950 for the price of the 940. |

AMD has put version 9.3 of the ATI Catalyst online. They are unified for both Windows Vista and Windows 7. Among the innovations, there is a performance improvement in Folding@Home and Lost Planet: Colonies (up to 20% on the Radeon 4800s and 50% on the Radeon 4600/4500/4300). The HDMI Audio driver has now been included in the Catalyst driver package. To download it, go to this page! The Linux version of the 9.3s should be online in a week. |
