AMD has decided to follows Intel’s lead in producing affordable dual core processors. Will this new version keeps its promises compared to standard Athlon 64 and Pentium D processors?
Because of the recent release of the ATI Radeon X800 GT, NVIDIA has decided to release of a new 6800 declination to maintain its domination on the middle range market: the 6800 XT.
This graphic card will be very much like the 6800 LE and will feature 8 pipelines additionally to four vertex shaders units. The only difference will be the frequency and WMV HD acceleration which wasn’t functional with the 6800 LE based on NV45s. This acceleration will be active with the NV42 6800 XT.
NVIDIA still hasn’t communicated the 6800 XT GPU or memory frequency but told us that performances will be comparable to the X800 GT. NVIDIA’s price policy though should be more aggressive than ATI to put pressure on its competitor.
Compared to the Radeon X700 Pro, the X800 GT provides better performances but it won’t probably be the case for the 6800 XT and 6600 GT. The 6800 XT will have a higher bandwidth but a lower fillrate.
