How much will Quad SLI cost?

If NVIDIA announced at CeBIT the release of Quad SLI via several integrators (see this news), we did not however have any information about the additional cost of these cards, except for indirect costs of course (power supply amongst other things). The on-line release of Quad SLI configurations answered this question.

For Falcon Northwest, the difference between a 7900 GTX SLI and a 7900 Quad SLI is $689, whereas it is only of $345 for Velocity Micro. Price gaps are important and are also due to some of the price policies: for Falcon you have for example to add $721 to upgrade form 1 to 2 7900 GTX even if you can buy one in shops for $550.

It is difficult to have a precise opinion about the real additional cost of Quad SLI based on these figures. Though, according to our sources, the price of Velocity Micro would be closer to reality. Here are FYI, the GPU/DDR frequencies of cards equipped with a 7900 and according to NVIDIA:

    - 7900 GT : 450/660
    - 7900 Quad SLI : 500/600
    - 7900 GTX : 650/800

     Galaxy releases dual 7600GT

Galaxy released a new dual-GPU card. After the 6600 GT, 6800 GT, 7800 GT and recently the X1600, this time two GeForce 7600 GT each with 256 MB of GDDR3 memory are included. The two chips connect thanks to the SLI technology and communicate each via 8 PCIe lanes with the chipset.

The thing is, if a 7600GT SLI will globally provide higher performances than a 7900 GT this card will probably be released at 400€ approximately. Under those circumstances, and except for the technological demonstration, we don't really see the interest of this card.
