Brother, Canon, HP and Lexmark sell entry level laser multifunction for professionals, individual users with a fax, document loader, monochrome or, and this is brand new, color.
We have invested a lot of time in this article and run autonomy tests for each model. It was worth it because we found very interesting results which were sometime much superior to the characteristics announced. When the principal fear for this type of products is the replacement of the consumable, this is very appreciable.
We have had a couple of good surprises. Beside the very impression autonomy, these economical models have very high print rates (up to 29 pages per minute!), unexpected functionalities (two side printing) and even color for one model….

Already unbeatable for high end AGP solutions because of the X1950 Pro available from several manufacturers, ATI strengthens its position with GeCube. The latter announced, at an unknown price, the X1950 XT AGP, a graphic card that will be 15 to 30% faster.
We remind you that the X1950 Pro is based on the RV570 in 80nm, the X1950 XT is based on RV580 in 90nm and the RV580 provides higher raw performances because of the presence of 48 pixel shader pipeline instead of 36 for the RV570.
About frequency, GeCube announced 648 MHz instead of 625 MHz usually for this type of card but hasn’t given any indications about the 250 MB of GDDR3 which are usually clocked at 900 MHz for the X1950 XT. HDCP is supported and the cooling is ensured by a peltier/heatpipe/double fan system also used by Sparkle for some of the 8800. AnandTech noted about this system that if the temperatures were indeed lower, it was at the expense of the noise level despite GeCube and Sparkle’s announcements. |
