VESAAccording to HKEPC, starting December 3rd Nvidia could launch the G98 (D8M) to replace the GeForce 8400 GS. Of course, this new card will support PCI-Express 2.0, its memory bus will remain limited to 64 bits and the GPU will be set at 567 MHz. However, especially noteworthy is that it will be equipped with a DisplayPort connector. You may recall that this interface aims to replace the current standards such as DVI, LVDS and VGA in the long term. Given that AMD has already successfully tested its compatibility with certain future products which will have a native DisplayPort 1.1 transmitter, it’s about time Nvidia announced something concrete in this domain.

Today, the South Korean manufacturer Hynix has unveiled the first GDDR5 chip with a size of 128 MB. Engraved in 66 nm, it offers a memory bandwidth which can attain 20 GB /s just like those produced by Qimonda. Thus, the targeted frequency is also 2.5 GHz and in practice, this should allow doubling performances compared to GDDR3. While this is a strong possibility, note that when combined with a GPU whose memory controller has a width of 512 bits, this will mean the graphic card will have a minimum of 2048 MB with a bandwidth of around 320 GB /s. Currently, such a large quantity of memory is only reserved for very high end professional cards.

In a Product Change Notification, Intel has confirmed that they are planning on stopping production of the Core 2 dual core desktop FSB 1066 MHz, or in other words the Core 2 Extreme X6800 and Duo E6700, E6600, E6420, E6320 and E6300. Most of these processors were introduced at the end of July 2006 with Core 2 architecture and are still based on the ageing stepping B2. In actuality, they have been replaced for some time by E6x50 models which have an FSB 1333 MHz as well as by the very popular Q6600. Moreover, the California giant will launch a complete line of quad & dual core Penryns at the beginning of 2008. Orders will be taken up until March 7, 2008 and the last deliveries will take place on June 6, 2008 for boxed versions and May 8, 2009 for OEM versions.
