Digital-Info has published a couple of information about the future Intel i955X Motherboard: the P5WD2 Premium. This motherboard supports the Intel LGA775 FSB800 and 1066 processors including dual cores additionally to four DIMM 240 pins DDR-2 memory modules. If the chipset officially supports the DDR2-533 and 667, the characteristic table also includes the DDR2-800 mode.

We have notice two PCI Express x16 slots for graphic cards surrounding two of the three PCI slots. Only one PCI-E x1 slot is available and won’t be usable if one of the two x16 slots is used because of a lack of space.

Amongst additional chips are an ITE chip which supports two additional ATA-133/RAID channels, one TI chips for the firewire, two Gigabit Ethernet (Marvell and Intel) network controller and one additional Marvell SATA controller for a 5th internal SATA port and one external SATA port. The HD audio codec isn’t included on the prototype shown in the picture but knowing Asus it will probably be a CMI. The motherboard features for power supply an ATX 24 pins connector, an ATX 12V 4 pins connector, and a Molex 4 pins connector. i955X motherboards will be available within a month and prices should be as high as their functionalities…

Like the other makers, Seagate is actively working on the PMR technology ((Perpendicular Magnetic Recording), which target is to significantly increase hard drives surface density to reach higher capacity than the current technology. The manufacturer, always a leader in terms platters density, said that it would be amongst the first to start the PMR hard drive production.

As Toshiba said at the end of last years that it was planning to release such hard drives during Q2 and that Hitachi could release PMR hard rives by the end of the year, we think that this release could be during this interval. The first PMR disc will have 30 to 40% higher capacity than current hard drives and the target for 2007 is to double this density.
