     GeForce 9600 GSO, 9800 GT & GTS

Logo NvidiaVR-Zone has confirmed information given at the start of the month by Expreview on the GeForce 9600 GSO which will be nothing more than a renamed GeForce 8800 GS. There is however one difference in that partners will be more or less free to set GPU and memory frequencies as they see fit. If in actuality some may offer attractive models, there is also the fear that others will take advantage of the situation to release lower performance versions as it was the case with certain GeForce 8800 GT 256 MBs.

Higher up the line, it’s now a question of the GeForce 9800 GT based on the G92b (engraved in 55nm) which will arrive in July. Finally, a GeForce 9800 GTS is also planned but exclusively destined for OEMs.

Nvidia support indicates that a data corruption problem can occur with the nForce 790i when overclocking the FSB and when using certain high end memory solutions.

The firm with the green chameleon specifies that its engineers are currently working to resolve the problem and they even offer to keep users up to date on the evolution of work via e-mail. Given that no further information was provided, it’s hard to know if this is a big problem. The only thing is that the nForce 790i is a high end chipset and it would unfortunate if motherboards equipped with it are limited in overclocking.

AMD takes another blow in the form of a new resignation and not an insignificant one as it was none other than Phil Hester, CTO (Chief Technology Officer) and Vice President.

Starting in 2005 with the company, he was responsible for the vision and technical direction, his first priority being accelerated computing initiative . He was also involved in the Fusion project but not on the day to day R&D level. Therefore, in the short term, his departure shouldn’t have any effect. Note that he has no replacement and the members of his team will be integrated to other AMD divisions.
