The Japanese memory manufacturer Elpida has just announced that it has developed the first PC3-20000/DDR3-2500 128 MB chips. What's more they can run at a normal 2.5Gbps at 1.5V (or even 1.2V for DDR3-1800) whereas at the moment it's generally not possible to find better than PC3-17000/DDR3-2133 at 2.0V or higher.

In order to achieve these levels of performance Elpida uses copper interconnect technology instead of aluminium, which improves conductivity. Sample shipments are expected to begin by the end of August and the manufacturer has already announced smaller chip structures which will allow it to produce even faster chips. It remains to be seen what the latency will be and above all, what the chip modules will be priced at...

Nvidia has just put the GeForce Power Pack online that includes the GeForce Release 177.83 WHQL which allows all GeForce 8 and 9 graphics cards with a minimum 256 MB dedicated memory to support PhysX acceleration via PhysXSystem Software v8.08.01. This is particularly good news for Bionic Commando, a new Capcom-GRIN game that is expected for the beginning of 2009 and will show off all the capacity of the Nvidia cards.

The pack also includes Unreal Tournament 3 PhysX Mod Pack , Warmonger (a free game), a sneak peek at Nurien's upcoming social networking service based on the Unreal Engine 3 as well as the new game Metal Knight Zero (with integrated tests for both) and new demos “The Great Kulu” (showcasing softbody physics in a real game play environment) and “Fluid” (a simulation of realistic fluid effects with a variety of liquids).

A trial version of the Badaboom video transcoder from Elemental Technologies, available for 30 days and also tapping CUDA and Folding@home, the protein folding client for banding computers together, can also be downloaded at the same address.
