Western Digital has just launched the WD Caviar Black, an SATA-II 7200 rpm hard drive with a capacity of 750 GB or 1 TB, 32 MB of cache, and in 3" ½ format. Like the Samsung Spinpoint F1 which was announced a year year ago, it will have 3 platters with a density of 333 GB.

In terms of performances, there is an average latency of 4.2ms. Average noise levels attain 24 dBA in Idle and 33 dBA in rotation ("Performance seek mode"). They should be available in the U.S. starting next week for a price of $199 and $249, respectively, which corresponds to 155€ and 195€ if we add taxes. Both have a five year warranty.
