While we have seen some improvement in terms of availability of the 45 nm Core 2 Duo E8x00, the Core 2 Quad Q9xx0 "Yorkfield" is still currently rare. As for the QX9650 which is found starting at around 830€ TTC, there is much less of a risk of it attracting a lot of enthusiasm.
Paul Otellini, Intel’s CEO, recently gave an explanation using figures. According to him, his company produces around 100,000 45nm CPUs per day and already offers 72 different models between the desktop, server and mobile segments. The company has already delivered 3.5 million processors which use this fabrication process and they represent 1/4 of CPUs sold in the first quarter. In the second half of the third quarter, 45 nm production should be equal to that of 65nm. Now the only thing we want to know is when we will see the 45 nm Core 2 Quad C1 revision, which was expected out in the beginning of March according to certain rumors. Apparently, it’s now a question of next week. We’ll just have to wait & see... |

ATI has published a Catalyst 8.3 Hotfix destined for all Radeon AGP cards supporting DirectX 9/10. Four versions are available: 32-bit and 64-bit for Windows XP and Vista.
This should normally prevent a "Direct3D initialization failed" type error from appearing which is recurrent with the cards since the release of Catalyst 7.9. For those interested, here it is!
