2007 was a good year for the main motherboard manufacturers. With a 34% increase in revenue over last year at more than €15 billion, ASUSTeK is still the champion in all categories. In 2007, they delivered 58.78 million motherboards and 12.39 million graphic cards.
ECS sales grew more modestly at 6.24% and attained €1.93 billion. In terms of units sold, this Taiwanese company still managed to sell 25.75 million motherboards but there was no information concerning graphic card sales.
MSI was on its heels as its revenue grew 23.1% in one year to total €1.89 billion. The company sold 18 million mother boards and 10 million graphic cards.
Finally, Gigabyte despite several organizational setbacks related to its aborted attempt to cooperate closely with ASUSTeK, still did 20% better with revenue of €1.06 billion. It even surpassed MSI in certain areas with delivery of 19.14 million motherboards. For graphic cards, it had to be happy with sales of 3.99 million units.
A few clarifications on this data. Revenue is difficult to compare because it also includes sales of other products including laptops. As for motherboards, with ASUSTeK, for example, only 13 million were sold under the ASUS name. The majority were produced (in their factories but sometimes production was sub-contracted out) for other companies and sold under their names. |
