Today at CES, Corsair answered to the announcement made by Patriot and unveiled the TWIN2X2048-10000C5DF certified to work at 1250 MHz. Important point, Corsair hasn't announced that it was the fastest memory on earth, but the highest clocked memory about to enter production.
Corsair also announced to have reached 1320 MHz in overclocking. Strangely, if we recently noted very promising improvements in terms of frequencies reached by overclocking, this is less the case of certified frequencies. Nevertheless, Corsair has at least communicated the other characteristics: timings of 5-5-5-15-2T, 2.4 volts and 2 x 1 GB kits. Finally, thanks to the marketing department, the manufacturer announced that this memory is specially designed to work with motherboards featuring nForce 680 SLI chipsets which is of course concretely followed by an EPP certification. |

During the CES, ASUSTeK has officially released the XG Station. This product, designed for laptops, is a station for graphic cards. It connects to the laptop computer via the Express Card slot which natively uses the PCI Express protocol.
ASUSTeK made a demonstration of the station with an NVIDIA 7900 GS graphic card (this duo will be available in May at $600) but we don't know yet if ASUSTeK will sell the XG Station alone. If it is the case, it will be possible to include any card thanks to the presence of a PCI Express x16 slot.
The XG Station also includes a LCD monitors displaying information (volume, processor frequency, several temperatures or even the framerate), a microphone input and two USB 2. We noted that the Express Card is limited to one PCI Express x1 link, or 250 MB/s bidirectional. This seriously reduces the performances of GPUs usually working with X16 links (4 GB/s). In practice, with previous tests, we measured performances divided by 2 approximately in x1 compared to x16 with a 7900 GTO! Of course, this is much better than most of the laptops based on Intel integrated solution, but we believe that if you have the intention to buy a new laptop it will be preferable to directly invest the $600 in a serious integrated graphic solution rather than counting on the XG station… |

Samsung is the first manufacturer to officially announce an LCD monitor with a 27" diagonal panel. The 275T features an S-PVA, 6 ms response time panel and a resolution of 1920*1200 pixels like 24" monitors. The inputs available are the VGA of course but also the DVI, S-Video and YUV.
Of course, having such a resolution with a bigger diagonal comes with a price: the monitor pitch considerably increases from 0,269mm with a 24" to 0,303mm. This is much more than a 19" (0,294mm) which is already considered as big by some of the users! The Samsung 275T is scheduled to be released in the US at $999. To compared, here are the US prices of the current Dell 24" and 30": $674 and $1274. Dell will release soon a 27" monitor based on the same panel as the 275T, the Samsung LTM270M1. |
