Expected out on November 12th in combination with 3-way SLI, the nForce 780i SLI, which is only an nForce 680i SLI with an additional PCI-Express 2.0 bridge, won’t arrive before December. This also means a delay for the release of Nvidia’s new very high end solution. While the precise reasons for this remain unknown, it may have something to do with the fact that nForce 680i SLI based motherboards aren’t entirely compatible with the Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (Penryn). We would find it hard to imagine that Nvidia would launch a new product with such problems.

ISORM, a store located in Florida, and ISA Hardware, a key distributor for AMD in eastern Europe, have confirmed the upcoming release of the Phenom 9500 (2.2 GHz), 9600 (2.3 GHz) and 9700 (2.4 GHz) most likely before the end of the year. Curiously, the TDP of the first two is a little higher than planned at 95 Watts (instead of 89) if this information from this AMD wholesaler is correct. In terms of price, we will have to plan on shelling out roughly 233€ for the 9500, 266€ for the 9600 and 275€ for the 9700 if we convert these figures into Euros and add taxes. Clearly, the 9500 and 9600 will be rivaling another quad core, Intel’s Q6600 set at 2.4 GHz and priced at around 250€. It appears this battle won’t necessarily be the easiest for AMD... |
