Sapphire is the first to officially launch a 4850 X2. The Sapphire HD 4850 X2 has two RV770 GPUs on the same card, each with 1 GB of GDDR3 memory for a total of 2 GB. The specifications are identical to the 4850, with frequencies of 625 MHz for the GPU and 993 MHz for memory.
Aimed to give a performance level between the Radeon 4780 X2 and Radeon 4870, this solution has been designed to hit NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 280 hard. It now remains to be seen if it will be able to gain a place for itself, if only within the AMD range, not necessarily an easy thing if it is priced too close to the 4870 X2. It has been announced at around €400 for now, but it shouldn’t be forgotten that although the 4870 X2 can still be found for €420, it has recently been raised in price and could soon be on sale at almost €500. A 1 GB (2x512 Mo) version will also soon be on sale for around €350. |

Intel has decided to phase out 5 65 nm dual core processors, namely the Core 2 Duo E6850, E6750, E6550, E6450 et E4600. Just as the Core i7 is being launched, the Dual Core “Conroe” as it appeared a little over two years ago, to the resounding success we’re all aware of, is now being taken off the market to make way for its successor, the 45nm Penryns.
As usual, manufacturers who still have a specific requirement for these CPUs will be able to continue to order them until March 2009, for deliveries up until May 2010 for tray versions and June 2009 for boxed versions. The Q9450, which is engraved at 45 nm, will also be phased out over the same period, in line with Intel’s 45 nm quad core policy in regard to the versions with a cache of 4, 6 and 12 MB. |
