The next Acer digital camera, the CR-8530 (8 Megapixels + zoom 3X) will be available in June at an MSRP of 329€ (VAT included)! The current cheapest 8 megapixels is the Canon PowerShot Pro 1, 700€ approximately (the Konica Minolta A200 is sometime less expensive but has a higher MSRP). The CR-8530 will be two times less expensive than current 8 megapixels. It is however important to remind you that the Canon Pro 1 is a lot different from this camera.

Now let’s see if you can remember. Those who regularly read our new have already guessed how Acer made this miracle happen…We published last October 28 a news entitled "A new 8 Megapixels sensor". We also said: “ Sharp has announced the release of a new 8 megapixels sensor. This new sensor is cheaper and smaller, 1/1.8" instead of 2/3", than its rival the Sony 8 megapixels. But because of its size, this new sensor will probably produce picture with a higher level of noise.

Six months later… here it is. We have had access to the camera characteristics and this sensor is the one included in the CR-8530.
