Zero Bright Dot warranty for Samsung!

Finally one of the world's largest manufacturers has decided to provide products with Zero Bright Dot warranty. Thank you Samsung and we hope that many other will follow!

We however need to point out that: this Zero Bright Dot warranty will be realized in four steps, this warranty provides 14 days exchange service from the actual date of purchase, and it only concerns "ZBD" – zero bright dot. This warranty doesn’t cover black dots. This isn’t however crucial as these dots are less disturbing. However this ZBD covers white, red, green and blue dots which are the most annoying.

    Step 1
1st January 2005: all X and P series are covered by the ZBD warranty. In each box the user will find a paper which will explain this text:

    Step 2
February 2005: The ZBD warranty will be extended to TV monitors (computer screens equipped with a TC tuner) and all 19” screens and above equipped with a numerical interface (DVI).

    Step 3
March 2005 : The ZBD will be extended to 15” screens and above with a numerical interface (DVI).

    Step 4
After March 2005 and before the end of the year (we don’t know the exact date yet): the warranty will be extended to all LCD analogical screens.

Samsung insists on the fact that this very recent information hasn’t been sent to all their retailers, so your local supplier might not be aware of this information. So, even if you retailer certifies you that the P and X series don’t have a ZBD warranty, Samsung certifies that they have one. If you have any problem, contact directly Samsung’s aftersales services.

Last information, this ZBD warranty doesn’t concern LCD TVs for the moment. LCD TVs are developed by another division which doesn’t apply the same policy.

In a press release, Gigabyte announced a few days ago the first Pentium 4 motherboard equipped with two PCI Express x16 slots. Based on the Intel i915P chipsets, the GA-8I915P Dual Graphic is equipped with a Socket 775, supports current Pentium 4, future P4 6xx and the DDR and DDR2. The GA-8I915P Dual Graphic will also include the dual bios, FireWire, and two additional ATA ports.

Additionally to 3 standard PCI slots and one PCI Express x1, the GA-8I915P Dual Graphic also has 2 PCI Express x16 ports. As Intel’s chipsets have 20 PCI Express lanes, the first slot should be branched in x16 and the second one in x4. Using both slots should make the x1 slot unusable. However, unlike Gigabyte’s indications, this motherboard isn’t the first one with two PCI Express x16 slots. End of November, SuperMicro announced a similar motherboard.
