As planned, AMD proceeded with the first shipments of Barcelona Opterons in the month of August, according to Phil Hughes, spokesperson for the firm’s Server & Workstation segment.
While it is practically sure that AMD’s partners are ready for the launch on September 10th and can thus offer to their clients the first machines equipped with one or more processors based on K10 architecture starting on day 1, the frequency of processors already sold have not been revealed nor the quantities ordered.
The good news for Intel’s rival is that the first sales were made at the end of the second quarter. Given the rather high price of products upon their release, this should contribute in slightly brightening up the financial results from this period. |
