ASUSTeK should release soon a Socket 479 processor adaptor for Socket 478. With this adaptor it will be possible to use a Pentium M with a Pentium 4 motherboard! This configuration is only possible because both processors use the same bus to communicate with the chipset.

The CT-479 fits in the Socket 478 and will be compatible with all standard Celeron M Pentium M (except for low Voltage / Ultra Low Voltage versions). ASUSTeK also said that this adaptor only works with their motherboards (we would be surprised to hear that it would also work with other makers’ motherboards). A list of compatible motherboards will be available soon.

The CT-479 should be delivered with a CPU cooler and a 70 mm fan which spins at 3000 Rpm. The fan delivers 32.5CFM for 30 dBA at 12V. The adaptor power supply type is FDD and it will feature two jumpers to indicate the processor FSB (400 or 533).
We don’t know yet the exact release date, price and the list of motherboards compatible, but we are eager to see how this adaptor will work!
