A couple of days ago NVIDIA made a press release to announced the GeForce 6800 Ultra SLI performances with 3DMark05: 7229 points. Now it is ATI’s turn to communicate on that subject. The Canadian manufacturer indicates that the X800 XT PE is up to 20% faster than its direct competitor (DriverHeaven source). Our colleagues from DriverHeaven have reached a rather high score with the X800 XT PE – 5875 – and a quite low score for the GeForce 6800 Ultra – 4825. We have found 5690 and 5032. Our scores reduce the performance gap to 13% only.
And for strange reasons, neither ATI nor NVIDIA explained the performance gain brought by their last drivers for 3DMark05. ATI also hasn’t answered yet our question regarding the framerate instability measured with the utility program integrated to 3DMark05 with this driver.
However, ATI pointed out that a new record had been reached by Sami Mäkinen with an X800 XT PE: 8250. Of course the use of liquid nitrogen is most likely connected to this record obtained by the one who recently reached 6 GHz with a Pentium 4! |

Last March during the CeBIT, S3 announced a graphic chip range managing the PCI Express, the GammaChrome. These new DeltaChrome chips versions should have been available simultaneously to the PCI Express chipsets.
Almost three months after the i915ii925 release, it is time to take stock on the situation. According to DigiTimes, the cards based on the three chips of the GammaChrome range should be available during the last quarter 2004. S3 announced that the GammaChrome performances should be comparable to the ATI X600. |

Samsung India has just modified their warranty policy for hard drives. Hard drives manufactured before August 2004 will have a 3 years warranty instead of five for hard drives manufactured after this date. For the moment this announcement seems to be restricted to India, but we hope that other countries will be able to benefit from a similar policy.
Last July, Seagate announced a warranty extension to 5 years. Some rumours exist also on Maxtor saying hat they could change their warranty policy to three years for all their hard drives. For the moment the ATA 7200 RPM 80 GB have a one year warranty only. |

According to the The Inquirer, NVIDIA should announce their nForce4 chipset the 19th of October. The nForce4 and nForce4 Ultra only should be announced. The nForce4 SLI would be delayed not to disturb the release of chipsets with one PCI Express x16 only.
According to our sources, this information wouldn’t be accurate and NVIDIA should release the nForce4 SLI version with the other chipsets. Regarding the date announced by Inquirer, it seems accurate because NVIDIA will make a chipsets presentation to the journalists soon. But more than the announcement date, the release date is the most interesting! The nForce3 250 was announced in March, but the real availability was May for Chaintech and from June for the other manufacturers. The first date announced was April. We have to hope that this situation won’t take place again if we want to be able to buy an nForce4 card before the end of the year. |
