Intel has published its financial results for the 2nd quarter of 2008. The figures below are in billions of dollars.

While revenue was slightly lower compared to the previous quarter, it increased 9% compared to the same period last year enabling the Santa Clara giant to speak of a record 2nd quarter. In terms of profits, everything seems to be going well.

The creator of x86 attributes these good performances to a new record in the number of processor and notebook chipset units delivered. There were also more deliveries of CPU units compared to the previous quarter and higher seasonal averages enabling gross profits of 55.4%. this could have been even better but, according to Intel, an increase in the demand for entry level PC laptops caused a drop in average microprocessor sales prices, all platforms included.

The geographical distribution of income remained very stable. The Asia-Pacific zone represented 51% of revenue, North America was at 21%, Europe 18% and Japan 10%. Overall, we can see that on the mobile segment, sales of components continued to increase while the "Digital Enterprise Group", which includes the server and desktop segments, showed a sequential decrease of 3%.
