Intel: upcoming IGP shortage

According to information obtained by Digitimes from motherboard manufacturers, we should expect a shortage of Intel IGPs starting at their launch and continuing into a good part of the third quarter due to a recent repair of production processes.

The cause is said to be the discovery of a problem, which has since been resolved, in the graphic cores found in chipsets combined with mediocre yields. The priority is now given to the GM45 and GM47, which are at the heart of the Centrino 2 platform, to the detriment of the G45 and G43 which should be particularly affected.

First-tier motherboard manufacturers should receive small quantities of these last two while second tier will obtain less or even none. A return to normal is planned for the month of August and from now until then manufacturers should compensate for this by producing more cards based on the P45. So here is something that could give a boost to Nvidia’s mGPUs…
