Newegg has very recently begun offering the latest SSDs from Super Talent, the MasterDrive MX. They use the SATA-II interface and MLC (multi-level Flash NAND) chips. While they may not shine by their performance of 120 MB/s and 40 MB/s in reading/writing, they are particularly inexpensive compared to what the competition currently offers. The 30 GB model is sold for $299, the 60 GB for $449 and the 120 GB is at $649. This means 230€ for the first if we add the taxes.
The manufacturer’s site also mentions the existence of 8 GB and 15 GB models but no price has yet been announced. Power consumption (often the Achilles heel of SSDs equipped with MLC chips compared to models which feature SLC) is not given.
Either way, these SSDs are still very interesting and consequently may oblige the competition to react. Furthermore, two "drives" from the MasterDrive DX line were also presented. They stand out with a writing speed of 70 MB /s although plan on spending $699 for the 30 GB version and $1299 for the 60 GB.
