While the first Atom processors’ relatively low performances in slightly or non multi-threaded applications shouldn’t overshadow the Core 2, things could be different in other applications. More specifically, there is the Diamondville Dual Core, which with HyperThreading activated on each of its 2 cores, can make its 4 logic processors available to the operating system.
Because there is less money to be made in a PC priced at 300€ than a 1000€ PC, it would be hazardous to make the former too interesting. According to Digitimes, Intel will impose Mini-ITX format, has eliminated the PCI-Express port and only authorizes a PCI port and single Dimm port which can take a maximum of one DDR2 2 GB module.
The good news is that the price of the motherboard/Mini-ITX casing ensemble should be lower because massive investment is planned to produce this format at the lowest cost.
