A-DATA have announced an unusual SSD. The N002 has been announced at 200 MB/s and 170 MB/s for sequential reads and writes. It should be available over the course of the month in 64, 128 and 256 GB versions. Pricing is as yet unconfirmed.
The originality of this product lies in its interface. Above and beyond the standard SATA 3 Gbit/s interface, the N002 has a USB 3.0 socket so it can be used as an external storage device with far better speeds than a USB key or a magnetic disc.
While it has already been implemented on some USB 2.0 models, the idea is an interesting one and though the USB 3.0 standard will no doubt bring improved usage, you do still need USB 3.0 ports on your motherboard. A-DATA hasn’t yet given any information on the controller used in the N002…
