Title:
Acer : Gateway and Packard Bell next?
Description:
Acer has announced having made an agreement on the buyout of Gateway, fourth in sales on the American market, for a total of around $710 million. The transaction should be finalized from now until the end of the year.
This acquisition will allow the Taiwanese firm to benefit from synergies of $150 million per year, and to reinforce its presence in the USA and other markets, making its position as number 3 worldwide in the sector more solid. Also, Gateway will exercise its right of refusal to acquire all of the shares of PB Holding Company, the parent company of Packard Bell, and the latter will also fall under Acer’s control according to its president, JT Wang. This second buyout isn’t without interest because Packard Bell is despite everything still number three in Europe on the retail market. This rather sudden external growth strategy will allow Acer to definitively establish itself amongst the key players in this domain next to Lenovo, HP and Dell.
