Title:
Gigabyte: i945 build to last
Description:
Gigabyte, who is currently losing steam, has released a new range of motherboards based on Intel 945 chipsets and solid electrolytic capacitors. The benefit of these capacitors compared to wet electrolytic capacitor, generally employed for middle-range products, is that they guarantee a better stability and a longer life. Gigabyte also mentioned higher frequencies and better overclockings.
We can only praise initiatives that lead to improvements of middle range motherboards. However, we feel that it is excessive to use more expensive components when it is not necessary since the quality of capacitors close to the CPU is almost the only one that is critical. Also, overclockers will prefer using motherboards based on 965 or 975 which are generally equipped with solid electrolytic capacitors.
In addition, such a modification will only lead to higher production costs and higher end prices. Under those circumstances, it is hard to find a real point to this motherboard expect maybe for those who are sure to use it for many years.
