AMD GPUs engraved by The Foundry Company Posted on 14/11/2008 at 10:42 by Marc
At its last analysts press conference, AMD confirmed plans to make its GPUs and chipsets in the factories of The Foundary Company, the new firm that will take over operations at the current Fab 36, Fab 38 (Fab 30 once again in favour) and the new Fab 4x which looks set to be built on the other side of the Atlantic. This does not mean though that TSMC and UMC will no longer be used.
To this end, AMD is currently working on the update of a 32 nm engraving process on standard wafers (not SOI). The current roadmap programs tape-outs for the end of 2009 for a production launch at the beginning of 2010.
