 Intel has launched the first Xeon MP 45nms, in the 7400 ‘Dunnington’ series. Compatible with Xeon 7300 platforms, these CPUs have no fewer than 6 Penryn-type cores, with quad cores also available.

The prices are the same as for the old E7300 series, at equivalent frequency and number of cores. It should be noted that the 7400 quad cores have a 90W TDP compared to 80W for the 7300 models. The cache on the E7300 series was at 4 to 8 MB so there has been a notable increase. Low consumption models are coming in at list price. |
