The Atom: low volumes for the launch

According to the Chinese report Apply Daily, only 40% of Atom orders for the month of May will be honored. The cause of this shortage wasn’t specified and Intel is simply content to say that they are currently increasing the production volumes of all of its 45nm CPUs while reaffirming their confidence in being able to supply the high anticipated demand for the Atom.

The consequence is that ASUSTeK and HP, which already offer mini laptop PCs, will be practically without competition on this market for two months. In the meantime, those firms waiting for the Atom (Acer, Dell, MSI and Gigabyte, to name a few) to fill this gap will have to be a bit patient. We will just have to wait and see if the Atom will actually be available in our area before summer for those that want to stay connected during their vacations...
