Seagate has unveiled the new Barracuda 7200.11 with a capacity of 320 GB which is attained with a single platter. The maximum sustained sequential speed of this 7200 rpm drive is 115 MB /s versus 105 MB /s for the other 7200.11 and the average latency time increases slightly to 4.17 (+0.1). As for sound levels, they are down to 25 dBA in Idle and at 26 in rotation.

You may recall that two weeks ago Western Digital announced its first drive equipped with 320 GB platters, the WD Caviar SE16 640 GB (WD6400AAKS) and that the Samsung SpinPoint F1 uses 320 to 333 GB platters for its 320, 640 and 1 TB versions (the others use 250 GB).
