     The Phenom xx50 early?

Digitimes has obtained some information from motherboard manufacturers on the launch of the Phenom 9x50 which has the B3 revision of the Barcelona core.

According to them, the Phenom 9150 (1.8 GHz), 9550 (2.2 GHz), 9650 (2.3 GHz), 9750 (2.4 GHz) and 9850 (2.5 GHz) should be launched in the next 2 weeks. The launch of the 9950 (2.6 GHz) will be delayed until the third quarter as the increase in frequency apparently was not as easy as planned. The word launch, however, is a bit vague and according to previously published information, either way the 9950 was planned for the third quarter.

On the other hand, note that no 9850 seemed to be planned and the 9750 was up until now optimistically expected out in May. So in short, if what our colleagues say is true, AMD is slightly ahead of schedule. At the end of April, it’s the triple core Phenom 8450 (2.1 GHz), 8650 (2.3 GHz) and 8750 (2.4 GHz) which should arrive and this also earlier than planned.

Still in April, AMD will launch the Athlon 64 X2 5800+, which will come several weeks before the Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Black Edition and 4600+ expected out in late March. As for the 6400+ Black Edition, 6000+ and 5600+ (89W), they can be ordered up until the end of March. Finally, the Athlon "Kuma" 6050 and 6250 (dual core versions of the Barcelona) should make an appearance at the end of the second quarter.

So in short, there are a lot of ‘’should’s’’. However, in a 3 month period if AMD launches dual, tri and quad core versions of the B3 revised Barcelona at frequencies often surpassing 2.3 GHz and at the same time lowers the price of its current line, all of this means retiring the Athlon 64 X2 6400+ and 6000+. Moreover, it clearly indicates that CPUs with K10 architecture should replace those from the previous generation (K8) whose first members were launches almost 5 years ago...
